About Us

Q: What is Lacrossing Barriers?

A: Lacrossing Barriers is a non-profit group dedicated to providing opportunities to play sport, move and learn skills to those in marginalized communities that haven’t always been given a choice.

Q: Who do you serve?

A: Anyone and everyone. We are dedicated to providing opportunities to play sport, move and learn skills to those in marginalized communities, but anyone can attend our events and programs.

Q: Where are you located?

A: We are based in Calgary, Alberta but have programs all around Canada. Just visit our programming calendar to see more.

Q: What makes your organization unique?

A: Our organization stands out because we provide unique programs for all our participants beside just lacrosse.

Programs

Q: What programs do you offer?

A: We currently offer a multitude of programs, but our focus is mostly on lacrosse. We have added boxing and tap dancing to our list, but you can learn more at our programming calendar.

We also have an Adult Life and Mentorship Program operating on weekdays out of the Braeside Community Association in Calgary.

Q: Who can participate?

A: Anyone is welcome to participate in our programs. Our goal is to give opportunities to play sport and move for anyone and everyone.

Q: Do participants need their own equipment?

A: We provide equipment for all our programs. We only ask that participants come with proper footwear and be prepared for a fun time.

Q: How do I register?

A: Registration can be completed through our sign-up form or by contacting Scott at scott@lacrossingbarriers.org

Accessibility & Inclusion

Q: Are your programs accessible?

A:
Yes. We are committed to providing inclusive and accessible programming. You can contact Liz at liz@lacrossingbarriers.org   if you have any questions.

Q: What experience do your coaches or staff have?

A:
Our team includes college students and university graduates with degrees from Disability and Community Rehabilitation Studies to Health and Physical Education.

We usually have a stream of practicum students and volunteers studying Physical Literacy while our coaches have a wealth of experience or training from Scott Godfrey. He has been creating and facilitating adaptive sport programs since 2015.

Cost & Financial Support

Q: How much do your programs cost?

A: Program fees vary depending on the activity. Current pricing is available on our registration page but we will never turn someone away due to cost.

Q: Do you offer financial assistance?

A: Yes. We believe cost should not be a barrier. Financial assistance is available upon request.

Volunteers & Community

Q: How can I get involved?

A: We welcome volunteers, sponsors, and community partners. Please contact us at scott@lacrossingbarriers.org, liz@lacrossingbarriers.org or DM us on Instagram to get connected.
