Meet Our Team

Scott Godfrey

Director

"Grandpa Scott" began his lacrosse journey with the Esquimalt Minor Lacrosse Mini-Tykes in 1967 in Victoria, British Columbia.

Fast forward 50+ years and Canada's National Summer Sport has taken Scott to Ontario, Quebec, Manitoba, the United States, and England. Having played and coached from grass roots to provincial, international and professional levels, Lacrossing Barriers and Adapted Sport Development is by far his most cherished accomplishment.

In his capacity as a Program Coordinator with the Autism Aspergers Friendship Society of Calgary, Scott has been able to parlay his passion and experiences into helping develop several award-winning and recognized adapted sport- and movement-based programs.

Dylan Chand

Director

Dylan has been a part of Adapted Sport through AAFS Calgary and Lacrossing Barriers since 2018 when we met him at the Minto Cup in Calgary.

Dylan brings a lifetime of experience to LB as a player, coach and now program developer.

A four-year career at Quinnipiac, that included being named to the All-Academic team his final three years, is just the tip of the iceberg. Dylan played at three consecutive Minto Cup championships for the Coquitlam Adanacs (2016-18) and won two (16 and 18). Add in playing in the Western Lacrosse Association for the Maple Ridge Burrards and it is not hard to see Dylan knows what he is talking about.

Dylan has coached at the Senior and Junior Box and Field levels in BC, Alberta and now Saskatchewan. Yes...he's a pretty giving and helpful guy. We sure are gald he is on board.

Oh.....one more thing. He is doing a Masters Degree in Vaccinology and maybe go into Pharmacology......told you he was Wicked Smart.

Bryce Ripley

Coach

Bryce is a founding member of Lacrossing Barriers and one of the best friends ever. Bryce elegant his lacrosse journey a long time ago. He has been a season's ticket holder with the Calgary Roughnecks for years now. In 2018 his playing and coaching journey began with a visit to the 2018 Minto Cup. After meeting many players, coaches and GMs Bryce chose to play lacrosse.

Since then he has been a stalwart at all AAFS Lacrosse Programming and every LB event as a Box/Indoor goalie and a long pole in field. Bryce is a Level One coach.

Anton Gasper

Media Manager and Podcaster

Anton is an OG Lacrossing Barriers guy. He was around LB before it was Lacrossing Barriers.

Anton is a Mount Royal University grad (Broadcasting), a cameraman for the Calgary Flames, Hitmen, Wranglers and Rougnecks....oh yeah, and the Calgary Stampeders. So when you see a face-off or an amazing sideline shot, it is probably Anton's craftsmanship.

Needless to say, his knowledge of all things tech, media and social media are beyond important to Lacrossing Barriers. Without Anton we would not have the online presence we do. He is also a mentor and voice of reason

Anton is also the driving force behind our podcast, the direction we have chosen to take and the stories we tell.

Brock Pridmore

Program Captain, LB Ambassador, Senior Staff

If you check out the picture you will see this kid in 2015 who wasn't keen on trying Canada's National Summer Sport and would not say much....at all. Family and Coach Scott bribed him with 7-11 chicken wings.

Did it work? Seven years later Brock has not missed a program, flown to Ontario to help with a ceremonial faceoff, and, accepted the 2012 AAFSies Award for Program of The Year on behalf of AAFS Lacrosse.

Brock is a Level One Box Lacrosse Coach, an advocate, Ambassador and Team amd Program Captain for LB and the Thunder Monkeys AAFS Lacrosse Club. Brock, and all the Lacrossing Barriers Staff are proof that Lacrosse is a family and The Medicine Game.

Kurt Castle

Program Support, Youth Mentor

Kurt is our newest staff member and someone we are glad to have on board.

Kurt has also been a member of AAFS Calgary for about eight years now.

Kurt decided to start volunteering at AAFS and with Lacrossing Barriers in 2021.

He will be the first to tell anyone who will listen that he didn't like sports.

Now he will laughingly tell you it was because his school sports programs did not give him a chance to relax the way he needed. He also admits he was a touch stubborn.

Lacrossing Barriers tricked him. To volunteer he had to be able to explain and demonstrate lacrosse. Surprise, surprise Kurt loves lacrosse (and is kind of a defensive and loose ball/transition machine.

He is also one of the most encouraging guys in the game.....and THAT is his best skill.

Jean Pierre "JP" Seguin

Coach

Started out his lacrosse career as a player with the Autism Aspergers Friendship Society of Calgary Program.

JP will be the first to say he was not keen on playing. A self-professed movie guy, he had to be dragged oir to his first session.

When JP saw the love amd respect in the Lacrosse Community he fell in love with The Medicine Game. Another Level One Coach, JP is also the Lacrossing Barriers Hype Man. He makes a point of ensuring everyone is welcome and that they know we care.

(ps: JP is the one without the beard, with his buddy Zach)

Melanie Gafiuk

Director of Golf & Appliance Director

I have always had a passion for sports. Growing up I played

any sport I could, such as golf, volleyball, figure skating and fastball. On my days off you can find me hanging out with friends, playing sports in the summer such as fastball, or traveling.

While finishing off my degree of Bachelor of Health and Physical Education, majoring in Physical Literacy at Mount Royal University I have created a device that allows an individual in a wheelchair to golf from their everyday wheelchair.

As an individual who grew up golfing and having worked in the golf industry for 7 years on the food and beverage side, I realized that there are not many opportunities for individuals with a disability to participate in golf.

As an

athlete I believe any individual should be able to participate in sport no matter the circumstance. I am excited to start an adaptive golf program with Lacrossing Barriers.

Jason Lubar

Design & Marketing Support

Jason and Scott are friends that met through volunteering in Lacrosse Organizations that serve under privileged communities and children with disabilities.

Jason has been playing lacrosse and Ice Hockey since the age of 5 and believes that EVERYONE deserves a place on the field.

He is still highly active as a Coach in the Greater Philadelphia Area.  When Jason isn't working, coaching, or training, you will find him spending time with his wife Kimberly and son Levi.
